  • The standard V6 engine of the Chevy Colorado has a bit more powertrain to its name and generates up to 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of engine torque. At its basest model, the inline-four engine of the Ford Ranger will generate up to 280 horsepower and 281 pound feet of torque.
  • If you appreciate all the power and torque of a diesel engine, then you'll be delighted to know that there is a 2.8 liter Duramax(R) Turbo-Diesel Engine available for installation on the Chevy Colorado. As of now, it doesn't appear that the new Ford Ranger will have a diesel engine available.
  • When it comes to the cargo bed, both models let you choose between a short or long bed for each trim. However, both beds of the Colorado have a bit more on the Ford Ranger where length is concerned with the Colorado's long bed being 74 inches long and its short bed being 61.7 inches long. The long bed of the Ford Ranger is roughly 72.7 inches long and the short bed is 61 inches long. When you're towing lumber from Jacksonville to Anniston, you'll see the difference the length of the bed makes.
  • At their smallest configurations, the Chevy Colorado is considerably more lightweight than this new Ford Ranger, weighing in at 4,110 versus the 4,328 pound expected curb weight of the Ford Ranger. A more lightweight truck enhances engine and fuel efficiency.
  • As of now, the Ford Ranger has just three trim levels and not a lot of versatility in the truck's configurations. The Chevy Colorado, by contrast, comes in four distinct trims, all available in two-wheel or four-wheel drive and most have three different configurations for cab and cargo bed.
  • If you enjoy the feel of driving stick, you might like the Extended Cab version of the Colorado Work Truck trim, which comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission for optimal control over the engine and drivetrain. The Ford Ranger will only be available in automatic transmission.
