The Chevy Colorado vs The Ford Ranger: A Returning Competitor Arises

A post shared by York Motorsports (@yorkmotorsports) on

Recently, at the 2018 North American International Auto Show, Ford announced the return of the Ford Ranger, which has been absent from the ford lineup since 2012 and will be available next year. However, in terms of being a suitable competitor to the Chevrolet Colorado, the Ranger still has a long way to go.

What Makes the Chevy Colorado Shine over the Ford Ranger?

  • First and foremost, there's the engine. As of now, Ford has only announced one available engine for the Ranger, which is sadly outperformed by the engines of the Chevy Colorado.
  • The Ford Ranger will only be available in three trims, whereas the Colorado will continue to offer the four trims it has, giving the Colorado much more versatility when it comes to available configurations.
  • At their most basic of models, the Colorado is considerably more lightweight than the Ford Ranger, which helps in achieving optimal efficiency both for the engine and fuel consumption.
  • The drivetrain of the Colorado Work Truck models is available in manual and automatic transmission, for those who enjoy driving stick. The Ranger is expected to be available with solely automatic transmission.
